Coron Tour: Barracuda Lake

Whenever I say “Barracuda”, I always think of Heart’s song – Barracuda! <insert the instrumental part here> “Ooooh… Barracuda!”

OK. That sounds pointless. Enough with the endless blabbering. Let’s proceed.

We have to climb up to one of the rock formations just to get to the Barracuda Lake. It was quite a struggle because the rocks are pointy and uneven.  Most of the wooden stairs are already broken (well, almost) .. Please, watch your step! :) Also, don’t forget to bring your Aqua Shoes. It will be your best friend for the entire trip! I’m telling you.

And Touchdown! Hello, Barracuda Lake! Wohooo! Such a quiet and dark place. Nice but scary at the same time.

First look, the place was too calm, peaceful and beautiful. I don’t know why I’m too scared to try and experience the astonishing place.

Before diving in, I asked Matt if there was a real Barracuda in it. He answered with no hesitation, “Yes.” Being my coward self, I decided to just stay in the corner ay play with small fish near the staircase. Hahaha

But you know what, who would resist? The place is awesome. And I don’t want to miss it.

I asked Matt more about the “Barracuda”. Here’s what he said:

  1. There was a real Barracuda that has been around the lake for more than 5 years.
  2. There was only ONE Barracuda. So, yes, it will not populate. (and yes, there would be no Barracuda 3D.)
  3. Barracuda has 2 friends, a Big-eye Fish and an Eel. They always go together. So if you see any of them; calm down. Breathe in – breathe out.
  4. The Barracuda will not do harm, he is very friendly to people. (whatever!)

There are also lots of shrimps! So cute and if you can take a closer look: there’s a shrimp at Matt’s left foot!

There was a group of divers with us, but they eventually left and went to the darker place. *nuninu*

My awesome friend, decided to jump off the cliff. Tapang mo teh! You already!

I am not a good swimmer. But I would prefer to swim with no vests or floating materials. It’s more comfortable. and I can swim freely! ^_^

Then mooooore snorkeling photos. Thank goodness for underwater cameras. Whew.

When Aeyah and I finally decided to emerge in the lake, Mike saw something 10 meters below the ground.

  • Mike: Kuya ano (a sea creature) yung nasa baba? (what’s that below us?)
  • Matt: *swam under* Ahh, sir, yan po yung barracuda. (ahh, sir that’s barracuda.)
  • Mike: Ha? *panicked voice*
  • Matt: Wag po kayo mataranta. Kalma lang po. (don’t panic. Stay calm)
  • Mike: *swam calmly with panic face*

He was 10 meters away from us. So imagine how dreadful his reaction was. Hahahaha. From Mike’s explanation, it was as long as his (he was 5’11”) and as fat as a 2 liter Coke. Oh the horror. We were just snorkeling near the entrance and it was just 10 meters below us! Crap. Felt bad to the divers who went far away just to take a glance of the barracuda, which was just near us. @_@
